Higher Education is a stepping stone between school or college and the world of employment, helping you to develop skills and abilities that can make you more desirable to employers, and can help you to get a better paid job.
Studying at this level will be different from learning at school or college. Each subject will be different, but the taught part of your course can include lectures, seminars, practical work and discussions. Outside of these timetabled sessions, you will need to manage your own study time. You will be expected to work both by yourself and also as part of a group.
Going to university gives you an opportunity to broaden your horizons as you meet new people, and get the chance to try new activities. For most students a significant part of the experience is living independently for the first time.
Deciding whether or not to go to university is an important decision which needs to be considered carefully.
Do your research!
Our Higher Ideas software will let you explore courses in a variety of different ways. Once you have an idea of which course/s you would like to do, consider the location. Find out about the area, travel time and costs, nightlife, recreation, etc. Once you have a shortlist of universities, try to attend their open days. This will let you find out much more and get a feel for the university and see if you like it.
