There are two types available - you can take out either or both:
- The Student Loan for Tuition Fees lets you cover your tuition fees in full (up to £3290 for 2010/11 or £3,225 for 2009/10)
- The Student Loan for Maintenance helps with your accommodation and other living costs: depending on your household income and where you’re living, you can apply for up to £4,950 (more if you're studying away from home in London)
Student Loans are subsidised by the government and are issued on their behalf by Student Finance England.
Maintenance Grant
If your household income is under £50,020 you could qualify for at least a partial grant to help pay accommodation and other living costs. These grants do not have to be repaid.
Visit Directgov for further information.
Bursaries and Scholarships
On top of your Student Loans or Maintenance Grant, your uni or college will also offer bursaries to a wide range of students. Exactly what’s on offer is up to your uni or college.
